Factors controlling oogenesis and embryogennesis; inhibin and ooctyte maturation; opioids and oogenesis; germ cell-somatic cell interactions; differentiation and structure of human granulosa cells; fine structure of the human endometrium; platelets and early pregnancy; sperm plasma membrane proteins; functions of the male accessory sex glands.
Oxidative stress and genomic integrity in golden hamster sperm
- Objectives:
To study how reactive oxygen species affect sperm DNA integrity
To study the effect of antioxidative enzymes in male accessory sex gland secretions
To study the post fertilization DNA repair mechanisms
- Techniques:
Single cell gel electrophoresis (or comet) assay
Localize the DNA repair enzymes in oocyte/zygote
Luminofluorescent method to detect antioxidative enzymes
- Investigators:
Dr. W. S. O & Dr. P. H. Chow (CUHK, Anatomy)
|
Molecular benchmarking of oocyte quality
- Objectives:
To develop method of follicle/oocyte maturation in vitro
To develop methods to qualifying oocytes matured in vitro
To study epigenetic factors regulating embryonic development and gene methylation
- Techniques:
in situ RT-PCR
Whole follicle culture (from preantral to ovulation)
In vitro fertilization
Gene methylation in pre- and post- implantation embryos
- Investigators:
Dr. W. S. O & Dr. P.H. Chow (CUHK, Aantomy)

NKkB activation in abnormal development of embryos sired by male mice with ventral prostate gland ablated
- Objectives:
To investigate the effects of ventral prostate (VP) secretions on fertilization
To establish effects of detection of paternal VP on oocyte activation and embryogenesis in vivo
To investigate the effects of detection of VP gland on the levels of NKkB in zygote
- Techniques:
Microarray analysis
Confocal microscopy
Immunohistochemistry
- Investigators:
Dr. W. S. O, Dr. P. H. Chow (CUHK, Anatomy) & Dr. K. Lee (CUHK, Anatomy)
